Interim awards

The FAS may pay interim assistance pending the making of a final decision in any circumstances it considers appropriate (FAS Act s 37). If the applicant requires urgent assistance, such as relocation costs or security cameras, or counselling or medical treatment, it is recommended that they apply for an interim award.

Part 14 of the FAS Guidelines outlines what types of assistance the FAS can pay as interim assistance. It includes up to five counselling sessions; up to $5000 for medical and safety-related expenses combined; and up to $19 627 for funeral expenses.
