Changes in the near future
-
Effective 3 October 2024, providers will be required to claim payments for supports provided within two years, with a grace period of 12 months applying to claims for older payments.

The changes to the NDIS Act enabled the implementation of ‘new framework plans’ which are to be rolled out for participants following an update to the NDIA’s systems in mid-2025. The NDIA is yet to communicate how this process will occur, and what the transition plan will be.
Under new framework plans, additional funding can only be provided in very specific ‘crisis or emergency’ situations, including a significant change to support need, a threat to the person’s life, health or safety, or situations where a participant has been victim to fraud or financial exploitation.
-
The changes the NDIS Act enable the NDIA to request a participant engage in a support needs assessment for purposes of determining the appropriate funding in their plan. The NDIA is yet to communicate a timeframe for implementation of this process.
