When can someone sue for defamation?

Publication occurs when a third party reads, hears or sees the defamatory material. If the defamatory material is published on the internet, publication is deemed to have occurred on the date it is uploaded to the internet. The limitation period is 12 months from the date of publication (Limitation of Actions Act (1958) (Vic) s 5(AAA)).
